The Australian Defence Force and the Tentara Nasional Indonesia (Indonesian Armed Forces) successfully conduct the third Coordinated Maritime Security Patrol in the waters between Australia and Indonesia from 16-27 April 2012. The coordinated patrol was designed to mutually enhance maritime security in the Timor Sea and targeted the exploitation of natural resources, in particular illegal fishing. Australia and Indonesia each contributed naval vessels and maritime patrol aircraft to a combined task group with units from both countries communicating directly and sharing surveillance and tactical information with each other. Australia's contribution to the coordinated patrol included Armidale Class Patrol Boat HMAS Pirie (Lieutenant Commander Mitchell Livingstone, Assail Three) and an AP-3C Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
