In any game there needs to be a clearly defined winner and loser. Exercise Hamel 2012 is no different, with laser simulation equipment bringing an even higher level of realism to the Battlefield. Exercise Hamel 2012 (EXH12), being conducted throughout June and July at the Shoalwater Bay Training Area near Rockhampton is the Australian Army’s key annual training activity and focuses on principle war fighting skills within all facets of the Army. EXH12 will develop and confirm these skills within the 1st Brigade (1BDE) who will take over responsibilities of the Ready Battle Group later this year. The exercise is conducted by Forces Command and in 2012 the 3rd Brigade (3BDE) will control the exercise as well as act as the opposing force. EXH12 incorporates facets from all areas of the Australian Army along with international engagement from the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the New Zealand Defence Force.
